David C. Hughes

Financial Stability Community Impact Program Manager.

Dr. David C. Hughes joins the United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County team as the Financial Stability Community Impact Program Manager. He has a background in education, sports and technology. In 2022, David was named as a leader in the Metaverse by U.S. Black Engineer Magazine. In addition to being a Capstone Advisor at Georgetown University, David has been a project manager and eSports education consultant with Games 4 Change and is credited with being the first person to start an eSports initiative at an Historically Black College or University (HBCU) while obtaining a $342,000 technology grant at Hampton University. David has been a pre-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, a Scientia Fellow at Rice University, and is a proud Morehouse College and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) alumnus. 

David has had numerous years of experience in the sports industry working for the Houston Texans, the University of Texas, and interning at ESPN and the University of Miami during his undergraduate studies. David has been the co-chair for the Educational Committee with the Atlanta NAACP Chapter, is a children’s books author, serves as President-elect of The Drake Group and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

In his new role with United Way, he will be leading a partnership of nonprofit organizations and interested community organizations in creating a financial stability program to improve the ongoing poverty cycle of individual and families, especially ALICE*, a demographic representative of the working poor. This effort aligns with his desire to grown his social justice advocacy work by addressing economic disparities within the Baytown area and Chambers County community.
