September 6 is the deadline for  team registration for the 2nd annual United Way Kickball Tournament. The Baytown, Highlands and Chambers County communities are invited to participate in a community kickball tournament on October 5, 2013 at Wayne Gray Sports Complex in Baytown.   This is the second year United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County will present this tournament.     A more rigorous and costly GED assessment test will be implemented in January 2014, so GED students are encouraged to prepare for and take tests during 2013.   The new 2014 GED test will align with emerging national and state standards.  The new test in 2014 will be computer-based.  Currently, the standard GED test is taken on paper at testing centers.   In the Houston area, the five-section paper test currently costs $75-$100, depending on the local testing center.  The computer-based test...

     Missing funds reported to police   As was reported August 16 in The Baytown Sun newspaper, United Way of Greater Baytown Area & Chambers County has notified Baytown police about the possible theft of missing funds.  Loss of funds appears to total between $2,000 and $2,500.   United Way has cooperated by providing, and continuing to provide, all information it can to police in support of the investigation.   Doctors Yvonne Thomas, Gilberto Veray and Margaret  Bradley will host the first Dentistry From the Heart event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Baytown Gentle Dental, 3700 Emmet Hutto Boulevard.   The event will provide a free day of dental care to more than 1000 residents who don’t have insurance or can’t afford dental work.
